I determined to repair up my old childhood desk chair and it’ll be entering into my daughters new room. Read extra under to see before and after images and how I made this chair glowing new once once more!
right here is how the chair looks, after I finished it. However, it had a long street of restore to get it watching new once again.
This chair is 35 years old and my mom bought it for me once I used to be 2 years historic from JC Penney. You’ll see it has a yellow speckle finish, its scratched up, it’s missing a finial (the little decorative knob on the top) and the cushion is shot.
First, I wanted to fix the finial that had fallen off of this chair.
We tried to discover a finial that might match it at Lowes, however they only had relatively big ones (think mattress submit). SO, my husband instructed we investigate out a timber working store that he had gone in together with his dad when he was once younger. It used to be all of the means in north county in St. Louis, but I did call earlier than we drove in the market they usually did have finials! Considering the fact that it’d be impossible to find an specific healthy, we had to purchase two finials (they had been beneath $2 each) and substitute both on the chair.
My husband sawed off the rest finial that was once on the chair, then used a half inch spade drill bit to drill a gap into every aspect of the chair to suit the brand new finials into. He used a bit wood glue to maintain them in position.
The chair was relatively wobbly, for the reason that the overall frame had turn out to be unfastened over time. I asked the hubby to fix that, too. (I go away the tough work to him!) To fix this, he drilled a gap on each facet on the again of the chair. He then put a 3 inch screw by means of the again into the frame of the seat with some wooden glue. He also counter-sunk the screw holes so that the heads of the screws have been beneath the top of the wood, then protected them over with timber putty.
Then my husband sanded it with an electrical palm sander… it is the type that vibrates, not the orbital style. I could have more often than not accomplished this section, but my husband used to be variety sufficient to do it for me.
After the chair used to be sanded, I applied one coat of primer to the chair. Then, I used the equal white paint that we had leftover from after we painted Autumn’s partitions in her room. I painted two coats of it on the chair.
I wanted to give the chair a ‘dipped’ look… so, I made up our minds to color the bottom of the front two legs with pink paint leftover from Autumn’s room once we painted her rainbow wall. Here is what it seemed like after I painted it. I did two coats of the pink paint.
And, here is the chair with the entrance legs ‘dipped’ in red. Slightly crimson goes a ways!
0 The final a part of fixing up this chair was once to reupholster the cushion. I knew I desired to reupholster it in a white fur. First, I had my husband take the ancient cushion off (it was stapled on, so he eliminated a couple of staples after which simply ripped it off). Then, I pinned the historic cushion onto the back of the new fur material.
1 Then, I took a black marker and drew a top level view around the ancient cushion. This was once my husbands thought, too… to make use of the historical cushion as a template.
2 middle the new fabric below the wood and foam.
3 Use a staple gun to staple the fur material to the wooden again. I did do that phase and the staple gun made me just a little fearful. Ha!!
4 And, ta-da! This NEW cushion is oh so furry and tender! I am hoping you enjoyed my little chair makeover tutorial.
