This unhappy but structurally sound dresser was once entrance and center at my regional thrift retailer. As soon as I noticed it I knew it could be best for a makeover. First things first – I eliminated the hardware and accordingly, started the system.

I selected Krud Kutter to wash this piece. I are not able to stress enough how main that is as paint won’t adhere accurately with out a easy surface. I rinsed after and let it dry. I then used Bondo to repair the damaged areas of the drawer fronts as well as fill in the ancient hardware holes. Bondo is a body filler and works rather fine. Make sure to use it outside; I perpetually use a respirator as good due to the fact that the scent is beautiful robust. Once it dries, sand it tender. I sanded the top right down to uncooked wooden and took this opportunity to scuff sand the rest of the piece as well.

next, it was time for primer. I used BIN primer, the one with the shellac base for this undertaking. I knew on account that I used to be going from a dark stain to a mild color primer was once essential. I sprayed the primer, frivolously sanded with 400 grit, cleaned the dust with a tack fabric and then applied a 2d coat. I let that dry and used the down time to make a number of resin molds.

These molds are particularly cool considering that they allow you to dress up surfaces and these served because the backplates for the handles I added later. I used a kit called strong Casting Resin – it’s a combine that you pour and let it dry for approximately 10 minutes.

as soon as the resin dries it turns white and which you can paint it then location it anyplace you like. I applied a base coat of Blue Ridge after which used timber glue to adhere it to the dresser. I brought six of those and two others for the sides.

even as the molds dried on the piece, I made up our minds to use a whitewash on the top surface. A wash is 50/50 water and paint. I used a white referred to as Cottage White for the combination and when I had the water blended I applied it with a foam brush then let it soak in for a minute after which used a shop towel to wipe back. This offers the grain a relatively excellent finish with out the appear of it being closely painted.

For the body of the dresser and the molds, I used the equal color, Blue Ridge, from The Chippy Barn. It is a ceramic situated paint that dries to a tough finish. You’ll find it here – https://www.Thechippybarn.Com/products/blue-ridge?Variant=31029086486612

I used my favorite round Zibra paint brush to apply to get a soft finish. I ended up applying two coats, evenly sanding between every coat and eliminating dirt with a tack fabric.
