So I’ve had this outsized nightstand sitting in my storage accumulating dirt for rather some time. I walked past it at some point on my solution to pulling out a larger, more fascinating piece to engaged on. I walked back over to this little chest and suddenly bought a vision for it! I ditched the better piece I was going to work on and started formulating my steps for this uncared for piece. This is what I did…
I forgot to take a %earlier than I took the drawers out. However I removed the drawers and thoroughly cleaned and sanded the entire piece. Dont pass this step, it is important to get all of the historic finish and grime off.
this is my go to cleaner. I wipe down before and after I sand. I mainly use an 80 grit sandpaper but you should utilize whatever works for you.
subsequent, I supply it a nice skinny coat of primer. I love to use a primer known as "Stix". It is a bonding primer and made by way of Benjamin Moore. Let me tell ya… These things literally sticks to the whole thing!
this is the place the fun starts offevolved! I mixed a few quarter of a cup of Joint Compound into my Cup and a half of base coat of paint. I picked a dismal grey for this step.
I then utilized a coat of this combination to the complete piece. I then took an cheap chip brush and just pounced it onto the wet mixture to create some texture.
After the last step dried, I applied one more coat of paint in a lighter grey to create distinction. When it dried I used my eighty grit sandpaper to sand it back to reveal the darker, textured backside coat. This creates a more practical look of aged and weathered paint than just distressing does.
I then put the drawers again in a taped on this effective stencil from Victoria Larsen stencils. It used to be the ultimate measurement for this piece.
I used the equal color of darkish grey paint that I used for the bottom coat.
I pounced the paint on with a stencil brush. I like the seem of the pounced paint on a bit that i’m giving an aged appear to.
The piece came with outdated "batwing" drawer pulls. I did not like them for this look at all so I ordered these pulls that match the seem and kind of this piece. I spray painted them in a flat black paint and when they dried I dry brushed a little or no little bit of the lighter gray color onto them.
here is a shut up of the stencil and the texture.
I put two coats of a matte polycrylic top coat on to seal.
