My daughter has her photo excited by Santa every 12 months. The first few years, it was smooth to show them on a floor in our home. But as the years went via, and the snap shots stacked up, it have become harder to find a manner to show them. I’ve been wanting to come up with an answer, but simply hadn’t gotten around to it.
This 12 months, my dad is coming to spend the vacations with us. It can be our first Christmas together in 30 YEARS!! And he’s by no means been to our domestic and hasn’t visible my daughter considering she was years antique. So I became determined to find a manner to display those lovable Santa photographs this year.
I went into my storage, with my DIY wheels spinning tough, searching out idea. I located a pair of shelving brackets…And decided this would be my place to begin.
I went to Home Depot and collected 2 portions of pine timber. One to apply as a shelf. And a smaller piece to apply as a lip, to save you the pix from sliding off the the front.
Prepping the wooden:
Because the thinner (lip) piece became longer, I trimmed it to the same duration using a miter noticed. A handsaw would have labored just as well.
Then I sanded the timber very lightly to make certain there were no splinters.
Joining the wooden:
I glued the smaller piece to the the front of the bigger, the use of wood glue.
Then clamped them together.
I didn’t have enough clamps for 6 ft of board, so I used huge wrenches too.
I discovered more than one tiny brackets in my storage, so I introduced the ones to the inside of the lip for delivered aid. I should have skipped this step as the glue held up nicely.
I smoothed wood filler into the crease where the 2 pieces joined. I carried out it with my finger and wiped off any extra with a damp fabric.
Then I stained the wooden with gel stain (implemented with a fabric) and delivered a clear coat finish (carried out with a foam brush).
Tip: I use the squared off stop of disposable wood chopsticks to stir small cans of stain, sealer or paint. I’ve by no means found out a way to devour with them, however they make ideal stir sticks.
Then I attached the brackets to the shelf. I pre-drilled holes to keep away from splitting. I located the brackets approximately 18" in from each cease, hoping that would help prevent the wooden from sagging through the years.
Then I attached the brackets to the wall. I drilled one give up without delay into a stud and the other cease I connected using plugs and screws.
Then the shelf became prepared to go! I delivered the photos, framed in matching dollar keep frames, and a string of battery operated starry lighting fixtures.
2 I’m so happy that I finally located a manner to show these photographs! And that I got it performed before my dad arrives in a few days.
I’m certain I’ll do a comparable show with the yearly Easter bunny pix. And Halloween!! I’ve so been wanting to display this little mommy/daughter Halloween tradition! I’ll be sending those snap shots off to print for certain!
