The Hubs and I often visit historic downtown Brunswick, Georgia. It’s simplest approximately an hour up I-95, and there are numerous secondhand furniture stores we adore to go to. Not to mention, the scrumptious food and hospitality at our favorite watering hollow, Tipsy McSway’s. Here is a touch records that become taken from their website.
While having a chew to every, we soon observed out that we had been smack dab within the center of an Elvis Impersonator Convention! It became a lot fun! There have been numerous Elvis impersonators installation on every square downtown, making a song, and dancing. Busloads of humans filed inside the tiny pub to refresh earlier than the next overall performance. Of direction, I couldn’t resist a image!
The Story Behind the Coffee Table
Okay, returned to the assignment. While touring one of the secondhand stores, we came across this very precise looking coffee desk. The carvings have been stunning!
This table had a tale at the back of it. The store owner defined that there was a nearby craftsman who used teak timber for all of his initiatives, who had considering that passed away. I knew the desk could be coming home with me. I fell in love!
The tabletop had excessive damage in a few locations (it’s difficult to look within the picture, but there was harm). I am not certain what the harm turned into from, however there have been numerous holes.
However, the base of the desk was sturdy and had minimum damage. See the lovable little drawer? And, at a price tag of simplest $forty.00, what changed into there to lose?
DIY Coffee Table Makeover
We had not had a coffee table in years. I felt it turned into time to exchange that. The grand babies have been older now, so no issues about them falling and bumping their heads.
We were given it home and carefully inspected it. The Hubs determined to assemble a brand new pinnacle. The harm become substantial and we knew it had to be sturdy because it would get plenty of use!
Waverly Inspirations White Chalk Finish Paint
Minwax Dark Walnut Stain
Let the makeover begin! He decided to apply 1×four’s to construct the brand new top. While he worked at the top, I were given busy on the bottom. I gave it an amazing cleansing with Lysol spray purifier. The one small drawer also got an excellent cleaning.
I did no longer need to cowl the desk with paint completely. But I felt it needed something. I am no longer a massive fan of the blonde wooden appearance so, I determined to use a whitewash. My portions in my dwelling room are for the general public, white with barn crimson being the accent shade. A whitewash might give it a bit shade, but not remove entirely from the carvings and the timber.
It turned into a straightforward process. I dampened my paintbrush tip with water, after which slightly dipped it within the paint. I then applied the coloration with the comb in long strokes, gently.
The Hubs completed up the top. Isn’t it a beauty!
You can see any other project where we added wood to an current piece HERE.
We decided to apply Minwax Dark Walnut stain to finish it off and provide it a stunning shade. The pinnacle was connected with rusty nails that the Hubs discovered in his stash. This in reality gave it a farmhouse vibe! I love the usage of antique nails! The entire piece become sealed with one coat of Polycrylic.
Here are a few photos in our dwelling room. I plan to buy a cowhide rug off of Amazon to go underneath. We receive many compliments on our espresso desk!
