Create an evergreen centerpiece for Christmas and provide a short replace with paint!
I’ve had this reindeer sleigh, Dasher, for numerous years. He became a gift that I *deerly* love the use of at Christmas as a centerpiece filled with greenery and / or ornaments. You can see him at a Merry and Bright Plaid Table, HERE.
I determined he should use a makeover to heat him up and mix with the timber tones of the room and marry the rusty sleigh bells at the garland and wreath I’m the usage of this 12 months.
I picked some acrylic paint from the craft keep in diverse sun shades of brown. I used four sunglasses of FolkArt Matte Acrylic Paint and a few antiquing medium I already had. The 2 ounces. Bottles of paint run round $1.69 every, however the day I stopped in Michaels to shop for the paint, the bottles had been on sale for fifty seven cents every! Tip: Download Michaels cell app in your phone to get entry to their weekly coupons while you shop.
Dasher had a matte end so I didn’t must do any floor prep before painting, but in case your object has a sleek or vibrant finish, you’ll want to sand it first so the paint will adhere.
The matte paint dries quickly, equipped to recoat in an hour. After an initial first coat of paint, I used a dry brush technique to layer the other brown sunglasses and cowl the original grey tones and end.
If you’re no longer familiar with ‘dry brushing’, it’s a paint method using an almost dry brush to use paint:
Dip the ends of your brush within the paint, then blot your brush on a some paper towels or newspaper (I used a piece of cardboard), wiping maximum of the paint off, before gently dragging your brush over the surface. Experiment your dry brushing approach on a scrap piece of wood or on an not easily seen spot before starting.
After Dasher turned into dry, I crammed a plastic box I had with moist floral foam to region within the frame of the sleigh. Plastic baggage from the grocery store help preserve the field in place and provide some protection from any water spilling.
Wet floral foam is available on the craft save with the floral substances. It can be trimmed without problems with a knife to the size you want.
Tip: When the usage of moist floral foam, use the “waft soak” method and location the floral foam brick on pinnacle of the water. Let the floral foam regularly absorb the water until it’s fully saturated. Plunging the floral foam within the water traps air bubbles and will prohibit the switch of water from the foam to the flower stems.
Dasher is filled with a combination of evergreens clipped from the shrubs and timber. . . Cypress, juniper, boxwood, magnolia leaves. . . Along with a bit of crimson plaid ribbon, purple ornaments and pine cones. Nandina berries reduce from the shrubs offer an extra pop of seasonal purple.
Here is Dasher his makeover and greenery for Christmas. More photographs of the wreath and garland on the weblog hyperlink beneath.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
